Description

At 24, 17 years of Cheyenne VanBramer's life has included the Youth Alive Step Team. From her first day deciding to join as a student at Conte Community School when she described herself as "very shy" to today as a powerful instructor in the program, Cheyanne has seen so many other steppers grow in their skills and self-esteem as she from this remarkable program. In our interview we cover what step is, maybe an "acapella of dance" as she likens it, how live audiences become a part of the performances, the high-energy nature of step, the self-confidence that performers attain, Cheyenne continuing step during her time at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. We also highlight her role as an art teacher in an after school program in the Pittsfield Schools, thoughts on better integrating art into the school day and in our lives, as well as her own art in drawing, chalk pastel and interpretation of still life and the human form. I hope you'll enjoy my conversation with Cheyenne.
