The Feds (though always UnConstitutionally doing so) funding early Radio and TV may have made some sense where channels/stations were non-existent. Today, with 100's of 1,000's of Privately funded/run outlets NPR should be completely defunded and stand or fall on its own MERITS of able to get people to tune in and support Privately or through Advertisers.
