2003 in Illinois by a couple of farmers that had some excess food they wanted to share with their community. Soon after, they recognized the need was greater than they could have imagined.
After Hurrican Katrina, these farmers decided to bring a semi-truck full of food Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Before leaving, the local Salvation Army ALM Division asked if they could bring 10 more semi of food.... the farmers said yes.
167 Semi-trucks full of food later, the Midwest Food Bank was born in conjunction with the Salvation Army relief. https://salvationarmyalm.org/hattiesburg/
For the last 4 years, Midwest Food Bank serves 320 different agencies across Arizona who distribute food to those in need.
