This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week 2020, therefore I am dedicating a few of my episodes to discuss topics around mental health.
Today I am joined by Izzy, a Clinical Team Leader at a psychiatric intensive care unit. Everyday Izzy and her team support individuals suffering with schizophrenia and so she has a good understanding of the illness and some of the struggles a person may face on a daily basis.
This podcast is aimed at raising awareness around mental health disorders and encouraging people to look after their own mental health, be open, talk and not suffer in silence. The importance of this is very much highlighted in this episode.
The biggest take away for me during this interview is that ANYONE can develop schizophrenia and it can potentially be avoided with the right systems in place and developing a work/life balance to prevent high levels of stress. It is also key to note that we must BE KIND to all. The level of disruption that such an illness can cause is life changing and not for the best.
Please take the time to listen and let's do our part in sharing and raising awareness of mental health.
For anyone who would like more advice or support on this topic, I have listed some useful websites below:
