The return to full-time on-campus schooling has been positive on many levels and we are so grateful for the opportunity to serve and support our students in person. We must acknowledge, however, that managing this return while continuing to navigate the pandemic has also been difficult for students and staff alike.
Our featured students are from Century High School. Congratulations are in order for Century High School’s senior AVID students - all 66 of them were admitted to Portland State University on Monday, Dec. 6, with nearly half receiving four years free!! Wow! And on a philanthropic note, Century set a goal of raising $10,000 for the Hillsboro Elks Holiday Basket program, which provides families in need with coats, gifts for children under 18, and a grocery store gift card. The Elks are supporting 650 families this year, and therefore need $32,500 in grocery store gift cards. At press time, students and staff had blown past their goal with more than $12,000 collected, meaning they have already covered more than a third of those costs. Students in Wayne Bohm’s Intro to Psychology class are leading the way in collections at the school, with over $4,600 raised, citing their interest in community service and commitment to battling poverty. If you would like to help them raise even more, drop off your coins, cash, or check at Century High School; or donate through the school’s Webstore. Way to go, Century students! You make us Proud to be HSD!
