Description

Following five consecutive years of increasing graduation rates, the Hillsboro School District saw a significant decline for the Class of 2021. Among students who first entered high school in the 2017-18 school year, 82.66 percent graduated in four years - a 4.41 percentage point decrease from 2020. Of particular concern is the disproportionate drop among historically underserved populations.

Our featured students are from Reedville Elementary School. Back in December, students at Reedville Elementary School had the opportunity to use digital microscopes during library media classes thanks to the Reedville Family Tech Nights grant sponsored by the State Library of Oregon and Reedville Library Media. The grant was written by Library Media Assistant Christine Durtschi, and allowed the school to purchase four USB Pro Scopes Digital Microscopes, thereby doubling the number of digital microscopes available to students for learning and exploration.
