Description

One of the most notorious criminals from New Zealand was Minnie Dean. The first and only woman to be executed in the country's history. In the 123 years since a legend has developed around her notoriety, and it has been preserved in literature, theatre, poetry, and a folk song by Helen Henderson. The argument over Minnie’s legacy has persisted despite the considerable time that has passed.
