Candidate Statement
As a community advocate and Assemblywoman, I have never hesitated to fight injustice wherever it may be. I am most proud of the NYS Assembly passing my bail reform bill, which will move our state toward a more intelligent, individualized system of pre-trial release, monitoring and, when necessary, detention. The bill will end the current monetary bail system, which has resulted in excessive pre-trial jailing of thousands of New Yorkers. I will work with Mayor de Blasio, or any elected official if the intention is to help the people of New York City. However, I will never hesitate to stand up to the Mayor and take him on whenever he neglects the needs of any community, or wherever I see the inhumane treatment of any group of New Yorkers.
