The Swan
Did you see the swan drifting
under the bridge next to Harvey’s Café, Sarah
just before sunrise
and Autumn tainted the skies
fluting and sighing
as the heaven began streaming
red caked with yellow strips
Did you hear the wind
silhouetting half of breath
over the fading light
before descending without a pause
as the swan slipped into the crack
pushed there by the soft current
baked in samurai shadows?
Did you see its wings suddenly flap
in a soft palatial rumble
splashing water like a shower like moon
briskly with an abstruse beauty
opening nature’s curtains for another day
with a crash instead of a half-asleep silence
witnessing autumn pull away from summer.
