A boy named Shinji finds himself thrown into a chaotic war between humanity and monsters called angels. His father, who is in charge of the group created to protect humanity with the use of EVAs (giant robots designed to combat angels) tasks his estranged son to pilot it. Shinji struggles his newfound responsibility and his desire to make his father proud.
