When strange seeds drift to earth from space, mysterious pods begin to grow and invade San Francisco, California, where they replicate the residents into emotionless automatons one body at a time. Jack Finney's Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a story told on rinse and repeat with varying results. Philip Kaufman's 1978 effort stands out as a crowd favorite (no disrespect to Don Siegel's 1956 memorable take). Donald Sutherland stars as a local Health Inspector who begins to witness strange occurrences and manages to stay one step ahead of the invasion until the end.
