John 16:16-24

Still teaching his disciples, Jesus speaks figuratively about His ensuing death and resurrection. In doing so, He makes them aware of the grief they will face, but the inevitability of that grief being turned to lasting and full joy. The same way birth is a painful process that ends in great joy, Jesus’ atoning death is excruciating for both Him and His followers. Nevertheless, unshakeable joy dawns with His resurrection.
