The longest government shutdown in U.S. history came to an end last week. Researchers and community members gathered in Yakutat to discuss local geohazards, like landslide-induced tsunamis. And Alaska legislators with the state Joint Armed Services Committee are raising concerns that a federal directive to prepare the Alaska National Guard to deploy domestically for civil unrest could divert service members from disaster relief efforts.
