Description

Dragon Balls' latest film to hit theaters Is a send-off to Dragon Ball Z fans. It should be noted that this is mostly a piccolo and Gohan story. The animation is also in a hybrid of 3D and 2D animation. This was done as a cost-saving measure and an experiment. The animation is on par with what you would expect from a movie from the Dragon Ball franchise. There are moments the animation feels a little like pre-rendered 3D animation.  But when the set pieces happen the blending of 2D and 3D animation is very well done.

It is also important to note that this movie is fully written by Akira Toriyama. Notably, he was only written four of the previous Dragon Ball movies. You can definitely feel his influence throughout the movie. His inclusion really does bring back the silliness that “Dragon Ball” was known for while blending the action set pieces that Hallmark the “Dragon Ball Z” franchise. I am an extremely big fan of Gohan as I'm sure many people who grew up watching Dragon Ball Z are. This movie does good service to the relationship between Gohan and Piccolo. The introduction of some actually interesting characters round out this fun movie.

My only criticism would be that it takes a little long to get going. The First Act is a little bit of a drag but after that, this becomes a really fun ride. And the very last Act of this movie is an amazing tactical set-piece. It definitely satisfies those of you who are big Gohan fans. And appreciate the Gohan and Piccolo relationship. I give Dragon Ball Super / Super Hero a 7.5 out of 10 definitely a satisfying Dragon Ball movie with great characters and awesome set pieces.
