Vengeance by B.J. Novak is a neo-noir thriller comedy that takes place in West Texas. It is ultimately a fish-out-of-water tale about a man who is thrown into a mystery. The protagonist played by B.J. Novak is guilt-tripped into going to a funeral of a woman who he barely knows. She has told her family that he is her boyfriend and one of his relatives insists that she was murdered. So BJ uses the mystery of her death to create a podcast. This movie truly works on a comedic level I laughed out loud several times in the theater. And there are still some jokes that I am genuinely still thinking about. It has humor that is actually quite smart and makes you think. Ashton Kutcher plays a record producer that has one of the most interesting scenes I've ever seen him play. He really does chew the scenery in this role in a way that I haven't seen from him. BJ is funny and I think fits the role of a Northeastern coming to West Texas very well. And to Great comedic effect, he has some decent chemistry Boyd Holbrook. Holbrook plays a local who shows BJ the ropes of being in Texas. His character Ty also introduces the idea of a plot that may have ended in the death of his sister. Being from Texas myself I did appreciate the representation. Even if some of the stereotypes are a little played out. Ultimately I really enjoyed vengeance it was funny and really well put together. My only criticism of the film would be the ending. I feel it goes to a place that it doesn't earn but I do understand the decision. I give Vengeance an 8.5 out of 10 a really enjoyable time and has a cast of characters that'll keep you entertained.
