This episode is a reading, including my commentary, of the Katha Upanishad—my favorite! Since I do not speak Hindi (nor Sanskrit), please forgive any mispronunciations or stumbles haha However, the essence of the story is most important, as it illuminates true faith and commitment to discover the Truth, and the key to external life. In Advaita (“not two” or non-dual), Atman (One’s Soul or Self) is equal to Brahman (The Absolute, Ultimate Reality underlying all phenomena). Knowing that this ultimate reality exists within us all, and then operating from that position is the key to liberation. Young Nachiketas’ commitment to learning the Truth of existence so impressed Yama (God of Death) that Yama reveals that AUM is the secret to eternal life. (AUM is the cosmic power behind all creation, and it is the vibration by which God/The Absolute/The Ultimate brings all things into being.)
