We visit with Eric Munson who owns and operates Gold Standard Athletics by Eric Munson. We talk about anything and everything about baseball. Eric shares his experiences playing, coaching, and the wealth of talent in the Dubuque area. Carmel in San Diego and was selected in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves in 1996. Eric elected to go to college at USC, where he earned honors as a first team All-American catcher, two time Team USA member, and 1998 College World Series Champion. Eric was the third overall pick in the 1999 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers and made his Major League debut on July 18, 2000. Eric played multiple positions during his career. After parts of nine years in the Major Leagues, and twelve total seasons of professional baseball, Eric retired and began coaching at USC (2011-2012) and at the University of Dubuque in 2013. In the summer of 2013, Eric served as the Assistant Coach of the USA Baseball 18U National Team. They won the 2013 IBAF World Cup and gold medal in Taiwan. Six players from the National Team were drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2014. In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, Eric opened up Eric Munson Baseball, the premiere indoor training facility for baseball and softball players in the Midwest in November 2013. During that time Eric has worked one on one with youth, high school, college and professional athletes and helped them take their game to the next level. Eric also oversees the areas largest and most decorated and respected travel baseball programs, the EMB GOLD. To date, we have developed over 44 teams and hundreds of players on our EMB GOLD and 3D GOLD teams.
