Description

It is such a simple thing to say we ought to be rewarded by merit. It is such an obvious truth that it hardly needs to be said, but said it is and it is said repeatedly. We say it repeatedly because we all know it never happens. No one is rewarded by merit because no one knows what this even means. We just know it is true. The dictionary defines merit as being worthy of honor. It does not tell us who gets to decide this. Both sides of a conflict give their hero’s medals. Which medals reflect merit, and which only add to the injustices which have already been done.
