A patriot does not love the material substance of his or her nation, it is far more and tied up with the symbology of the place. A nation is a human creation and is personal. We are tied to a place because it reflects the people we are. It is not about land and empire and national superiority. It is a love for an identity and the desire to make that identity all that it can be.
