Who owns a nation? For most people the only possible answer is the people, but this is much too general, especially in those cases where there are different groups of people who arrived at different periods of time. Does prior land use give a group prior and priority rights? But does this linking of rights with period of entry also apply to later arrivals? Does time of arrival give anyone greater rights than the rights of later arrivals? What of illegals? What gives anyone the right to be a citizen? Who decides? The answer largely depends on what you think a nation is, is it land or something more exotic?
