I sat down with Christina to talk all about dog breeding. We get started with how she got into breeding AKC Long-Haired Dachshunds. We chat a little about puppy mills and unfortunate practices in the industry, and the tension in the "adopt don't shop" perspective. Ultimately, we conclude that there's a lot of circumstances that leave space for both adopting from a shelter and desiring to adopt from a breeder.
We also discuss her practices around pricing and raising her puppies. Lastly, she shares some red flags to be aware of when it comes to scams online. But know that requesting a deposit before seeing the puppies is not an unrealistic expectation, but you should never feel rushed by the adoption process. And expect a good breeder to be vetting you as much as you are vetting them when it comes to matching a pup with a good home.
