The polygraph ("lie detector") has had a controversial history since it was invented in California by John Larson, a police officer with a Ph.D. in physiology. Periodically used in criminal investigations, employee screenings, and identifying who might be leaking classified information, we discuss some of the research behind it as well as some risks associated with its use.
