Description

Dr. Mark E. Shaw introduces listeners to Dr. William (Bill) Hines, author, instructor, and President of Covenant Ministries is the President of Covenant Ministries, Inc., biblical counseling and education ministry in Ft. Worth, Texas. Dr. Hines currently serves The Addiction Connection as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

He shares the personal story behind his book Leaving Yesterday Behind: A Victim No More. Dr. Hines then teaches that each person's sin is his own according to Ezekiel 18, and the end of sin is death. Leaving Yesterday Behind is structured by answering the questions: What is the Problem? What is the Promise of Scripture? What is the Process that we are given in Scripture? What is the Purpose of Life? – with the call to the Great Commandment.

The Good News is that we are sinners; we don't have a disease of addiction to alcohol, pornography, or our daily sinful problems, but the reason that is good news is that Jesus died for that and He gives us a way to overcome.

Dr. Hines also co-wrote the book, Curing the Heart, with Dr. Howard Eyrich – a description of why counseling from the Scriptures is the solid foundation that will not ever change because God never changes. The word "admonish" has a three-fold meaning: to warn, to stimulate, and to encourage, and Dr. Hines explains this structure of counsel to those he trains in biblical counseling. The Bible speaks to the heart of addiction, and Dr. Hines is eager to see The Addiction Connection be utilized as a vehicle to get more and more churches across the country doing more biblical counseling (as opposed to referring out to costly, secular programs with high recidivism). He desires to see churches using the sufficient Word of God to help all kinds of people with all kinds of problems, including addiction.
