Description

Special Guest: Pastor Wes Pinkley, from Dublin, GA, pastor at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church. He’s a Pastor who counsels biblically through soul care. His church’s website is www.psnbc.org and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/poplarspringsnorth/

Wes is also a Commissioned Addictions Biblical Counselor with The Addiction Connection.

Dr. Mark E. Shaw continues the series by asking Wes about Step 6 of The Twelve Steps. Those can be found at https://aa.org/pages/en_US/read-the-big-book-and-twelve-steps-and-twelve-traditions

Their discussion centers around how the Bible speaks into the lives of God’s people who have been addicted and are addicted, and how the Twelve Steps sometimes contradict what God says in His Word.

Many people use this self-help movement to stay sober, but the problem is when the self-help movement sets itself up as a spiritual solution that often goes awry from the Bible and Christianity.

Step 6 says

Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Wes says, "The addict is a soul searching for satisfaction. Aside from Christ, they will never find it. Who says it is a defect and who says it’s not? I would go back to the authority of Scripture and ask them to look at what God says. His power is made perfect in our weakness and Jesus died to set us free, I invite them to taste and see that the Lord is good." -Wes Pinkley
