Dr. Sudha Shenoy is currently an Associate Professor in Medicine & Cell Biology in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Duke University Medical Center. She received her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University and completed her postdoctoral training with Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz (Nobel Laureate, 2012) at Duke University. Dr. Shenoy’s postdoctoral research discovered that ubiquitination of mammalian G protein-coupled receptors is a tag for lysosomal degradation, whereas ubiquitination of the adaptor protein, β-arrestin, is a tag for receptor internalization and formation of signaling endosomes. Her laboratory has continued to work on identifying the molecular mechanisms that ascribe ubiquitin code on GPCRs and β-arrestins. Current efforts aim to understand the regulation of GPCR and beta-arrestin signaling in the heart and vascular endothelium by the deubiquitinating enzymes USP20 and USP33.
