In its 100 year history Austin, TX welcomes this year just it's 3rd African American woman and 2nd Latina to its City Council and the two have been in the trenches during 2020 and 2021's most challenging moments. Whether its protecting city essential workers during the Coronavirus epidemic, who are predomniantly Black and Brown and were 53% of deaths in the city since it's start last year or it's setting up food, water and other supply stations for those impacted by Texas's electric shutdown during an ice storm this Spring. The two have a history of community advocacy and are eager to see better collaborations between Austin's Black and LatinX leadership - starting with themselves.
