This week Meenal interviews Anubha Taneja-Mukherjee who a lawyer by training and has close to fifteen years of experience in the area of advocacy. A thalassemic herself, Mukherjee has been working for the cause of thalassemia since her early years in Thalassemics India. One of her key achievements with regard to thalassemia, is the establishment of the Thalassemia Day Care Centre in the heart of India’s capital. Mukherjee was able to achieve this feat by mobilising the support of fellow patients and engaging with the competent authorities within the Government of India. For this initiative, she also took help from media and other stakeholders.
Mukherjee has been speaking at various platforms related to thalassemia and she has been covered by media at various occasions. After serving as the Executive Member of Thalassemia for close to ten years, Mukherjee recently became the Member Secretary, Thalassemia Patients Advocacy Group, a unit set up under Thalassemics India, with an objective of driving advocacy for prevention, management and treatment of thalassemia in India. On the professional front, Mukherjee is working as AGM-Legal & Policy, for a global mining company. In her previous role, Mukherjee worked as a Deputy Director at the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), India’s leading industry body, and was responsible for driving critical advocacy campaigns for the concerned sectors. Mukherjee also has extensive experience of trial advocacy. Mukherjee’s experience of trial and policy advocacy across sectors enables her to apply the knowledge of law, which she describes as a ‘way to think as opposed to a subject’, to complicated situations at hand.
