Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from everyform of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
This weeks theme is our ultimate goal, the ultimate path to peace: abiding with Christ. To remain in perfect union with him is to be in perfect peace. We will not experience this fully on this side of eternity, but all that we do on the path of holiness is meant to draw us into deeper union and thereby deeper peace in Christ. Today’s passage gives us a beautiful and simple path to this union: 1. rejoice always 2. pray without ceasing 3. in everything give thanks.
