On this episode of Not Rocket Science, I recap a work conference that I recently attended and breakdown how I felt that the full-day event didn't come remotely close to being worth the price for a ticket (which seems like a pattern). I especially call-out how these "networking" events that you often see at these things and how the lazy organization of these things tend to lead to only the most awkward of conversations with perfectly fine people. I explain how I feel it feels as if the Workforce Illuminati is trolling me on the importance of "networking" relative to the experience itself which often feels artificial in practice and how I ultimately feel like I am just being Punk'd or something even though I'm getting contacts and "networking" by definition.
I also dive into some current events in tech, explain how my recent re-binging of The Sopranos has fueled a consistent craving for Italian food, and tell some stories about how Sopranos was filmed at my high school back in the day and how I remember seeing the cast in full on mafia getups in the hallway while I was scrambling to algebra class.
Have a request, comment, hate rant? Absolutely lovvveee ❤️ work conferences and think I'm a moron for feeling this way? Hit us up!
