There's a lot of history about black people in America that is not being told. A portion of that history that's not being told is that of the American Maroons. In black history, there were a lot of black people who stood up for themselves physically whenever they were being attacked or mistreated but this has been hidden because if black kids were to know this, they would have more pride in themselves and not think they came from people who just let things happen to them.
