Google says, PIVOTAL-POINT is something “of crucial importance in relation to the development or success of something else: the alliance that played a pivotal role in the revolution.”

In self-defense PIVOTAL-POINTS are found to be just that. In relation to the whole body a hip joint, an elbow, or a shoulder joint can move a much larger opponent exponentially compared to the same force used in a general chest, leg or body area.

We learn very quickly that all parts of an opponents body are NOT created equally. Applying pressure to certain areas of the body “hinges” the motion due to the fact that that point is PIVOTAL in moving the body in normal operation. If you are wondering if this is true, wonder no longer, and look no further, as a Jiujitsu Kimora or Americana is applied to the shoulder and elbow joint of a would be attacker. Not only does the arm move relatively easily, or PIVOTALLY into position, the pressure applied to those joints causes extreme pain. Soon the attacker is tapping or screaming for relief even from a much smaller, weaker defender.

In Life Defense we see this as well. In my life I’ve seen how some PIVOTAL POINTS move larger projects, people and initiatives much easier than others.

Today is Election Day in the US, and this time around we have perhaps the most contested election in modern history. Which ever side you choose there will be a consequence. Never the less, which ever side of the fence you might fall, there is a PIVOTAL-POINT the whole world is observing as the most powerful nation in the world is split almost down the middle.

Still, the power that comes from being a voice, a vote or a conversation has driven us to this outcome. Perhaps the PIVOTAL-POINT was made months ago in cafes across the country pre-COVID, or years ago in “liking or not liking” a particular candidate for the way they talk or the style of their hair. When ever this happened in our lives it was PIVOTAL and now with voting happening tomorrow it will make a difference.

Our conversations each day make a difference in PIVOTAL-POINTS of decision. None of these world changing decisions will be made made just today, tomorrow or whenever the post marked ballot says. They were made each year, month, day, hour and second along the way. The question is if these decisions were made from principles of truth or whims conjured up in the moment of passion.

As self-defense people we take on what works. Period. Does this technique work 90% of the time or not? We may execute a jump spinning, 360 degree hook kick as our technique of choice. Although beautiful we may fall on our butt and suffer brutal defeat. On the other hand, just stepping back and allowing the person to trip on past us might gain our escape to live another day. Either way we choose PIVOTALLY each day and in fact each moment.

The question we should ask is are we choosing by principles in the moment of conflict or using something else to make our PIVOTAL choice. Choose well each moment, and see because as you choose moment to moment, hour to hour, day to day those PIVOTAL-POINTS determine our outcome. Because we choose PIVOTALLY, always!
