PIVOTAL-POINTS: How things move!
Kim was a little surprised when Su grabbed her sweater and pushed hard toward the locker room wall. However, her reaction was immediate and effective. Just as Su pushed, even before her hand could get a solid grip, Kim moved gracefully accommodating her energy, exerted on the PIVOTAL-POINT of her shoulder, and propelled Su in a tight circle, gently guiding her to the ground with the aide of Su’s PIVOTAL-POINTS located in her shoulder, elbow and wrist.
Kim was all at once calm, and grateful for motion she’d learned at her dojang in Taejon South Korea. This motion was called HAPKIDO, or “The Way of Coordinated Power.” Confidently she had guided Su’s PIVOTAL-POINTS to a neutral position, her firm and non-threatening voice simultaneously saying, “It’s okay, I’ve got you…someone get a teacher, just calm down and I’ll let you up.”
PIVOTAL-POINTS like shoulders, hips, knees and wrist joints are how we move as humans. In self-defense we know that if we want something to move, or not move, we must use these motion accommodating PIVOTAL-POINTS.
In life there are always PIVOTAL-POINTS. They may be a person, conversation, or meeting. It is here where all motion happens. The definition of “pivotal point” according to Google is: “A pivotal role, point, or figure in something…that is very important and affects the success of that thing.” Our definition of PIVOTAL-POINT is where potential movement exists.
Think about it..In life, or even business, if we have the wrong people in the right meeting, or the right people in the wrong meeting, nothing has potential to move. There is no PIVOTAL-POINT present, and without extreme pressure, or breaking nothing will move.
In contrast, having the right people, in the right meeting, and having the conversation allows things to move with more ease and less resistance. PIVOTAL-POINTS accomplish great things with less energy.
Look for PIVOTAL-POINTS in everything you do and see. PIVOTAL-POINTS are where everything moves. PIVOTAL-POINTS.
