He fell hard, and tripped backwards to the grass. Brian was a former latchkey kid and had spent the better part of his grade school years at a local Jiujitsu school on the mat, just a couple of blocks from his dad’s apartment. His dad almost always worked late, and ever since his mother had died, his default caregiver was the Jiujitsu school. As he looked up at Jerome rushing in he decided to stay there, on his back, and in his current POSITION, on the cool grass feeling very comfortable on his back. Brian wasn’t afraid, in fact he was calm and almost whimsical. In a word he was safe. Jerome was surprised that he didn’t jump up right away. In fact, Brian just stayed there on the cool, wet grass as Jerome shouted insults and rushed around him obviously trying to jump on him, and pound him into submission. To maintain his POSITION, which was unusually comfortable, and familiar, Brian just lazily lifted a foot and blocked Jerome over and over again, spinning to thwart Jerome’s attempts at circumvention as he busily ran around this way and that. Simply put, Brian had what appeared to be a superior POSITION and was content right where he was at the moment. Frustrated, Jerome kept at it and Brian just held his POSITION. This just frustrated Jerome more. Eventually Jerome could see he wasn’t getting anywhere and muttered another insult under his breath as he walked off. In self-defense, POSITION could be viewed as one of the great advantages. In life and Life Defense it is the same. POSITION allows different leverage points, different perspective and different advantage, or disadvantage. What is your POSITION in any conflict? Are you comfortable, relaxed and calm?
