On this episode, Connie Matisse joins us to talk about the importance of giving back to the community and how her and her husband cofounded East Fork. She explains her husband’s story of how he began to love pottery and how he took a traditional approach to learning how to work with clay. They combined their skills and created a business in hopes to get his work off the ground. In 2015, they started selling pottery online. Their first line of products was focused on maintaining the traditional, beautiful North Carolinian approach to pottery with a modern flare that everyone can enjoy no matter the state. Connie discusses the process of an artist scaling their art up into a full business. She explains that artists need to decide if profiting off their work would cause it to become only a business or if it will remain something they love.
