WHO ARE YOU WHEN YOU'RE TIRED:
When you're tired and your brain loses colour,
Who are you?
You're not the person you were when you woke up,
and definitely not who you were yesterday.
Who are you?
You once held space for more pain, not today.
The cold bites harder, the heat wears you down.
Who are you?
Does your view of the world change when you're tired?
A smile, a lift of the cheek, show you're still here.
Head down, back against the wall.
Who are you?
A great expression, reduced to a full stop.
Who are you?
Count to four, count to six, count to ten.
Do it again.
Are you numbers when you're tired?
Who are you?
Who is the person you want to talk to when you're tired?
Where do you want to sleep tonight?
Who are you?
Is this version of you, the one you know?
A shadow, a juxtaposition, a riddle you don't understand.
Who are you?
When you're tired. When I'm tired.
This is a version of you.
I'd like to know.
POEM TWO: It's not real.
It's not real,
but this is.
It's not real,
but you are.
Journal Prompt:
What would the title of your coffee table book be?
Tell me what you would put in it?
