I am back from the sick bed, Covid, Migraines and Bronchitis really kicked my butt. It has been months since I last posted an interview not for lack of trying but because I had to reschedule all the ones I had scheduled. Not being able to hold my head up for more than an hour at a time, I watched a lot of television. I went down the Grey's Anatomy Hole and then started looking for movies that Patrick Dempsey was in. This lead me to the movie, Freedom Writers which is the inspiration for this podcast.
Freedom Writers is a story of inner-city kids raised on drive-by shootings and hard-core attitude – and the teacher who gives them the one thing they need most: a voice of their own. I highly recommend the movie.
There is one part in the movie where the kids raise money to have the woman who saved Anne Frank come to California from Germany to speak the kids. They succeed and the one scene in the movie when she comes is what lead to this podcast.
Here is a brief paraphase:
A young man stands up and says " I have never had a hero before you are my hero"
She replies " No, young man I am not a hero. I did what I had to do because it was the right thing to do that is all. We are all ordinary people but even ordinary people with their own small ways turn on a small light in a dark room."
So I am challenging you to do something small that will turn on a small light in a dark room
