Description

During this episode I talk about something I learned when I was in labour with my second baby - the way physical pain taught me how to deal with emotional pain and discomfort. I believe that in the moments when we feel adrift, lost, or disturbed by the events of our lives, we're being called home to ourselves / our hearts / our true nature. Without this pain we wouldn't know our true capacity.

The pain we feel in life (loss of a loved one, a difficult relationship, an unhappy child etc)often has us looking outside of ourselves for refuge from the deep darkness or the overwhelming emotion, I've often found myself looking for a book, a podcast, a teacher or a friend (and all of these things have been helpful and important). When I look outside, I'm seeking reassurance, comfort, a pathway towards not feeling how I feel.

But my belief is that the pain is here to expand us, to deepen our capacity for for even greater experiences, it's here to open up our lives in new ways - that at first might feel scary or even unwanted. Typically as humans we want things to stay as they are, even if they're not that great.

In this episode I share a little of my own experience in the hopes that it helps others.

I think perhaps there are many ways people find their way home; cold water, breathwork, solitude, heart connection, animals, long walks, writing, reading poetry, painting.....

The point is not to distract from the pain, but to stop running from it and allow space for it to be felt.
