Today’s podcast is about a really brief song lyric from one of my favorite musicians - Natiruts. It’s a song called “Quero Ser Feliz Também,” or in English, “I Want to Be Happy Too.” It’s a beautiful song, which I’d recommend you listen to. In the song, there is a repeated line of “Flores brancas, paz, Iemanjá,” which translates to “white flowers, peace, Yemanya.” I take today’s episode to break down what this means, how it resonates in Brazilian culture, and what it has come to mean to me.
