Description

If you are into S&C podcasts, then you know Joel Smith as the host of the Just Fly Performance Podcast. I thought it would be fun to flip the script and bring him on as a guest to share some of his most recent learning experiences both through hosting his podcast and coaching athletes. And of course, Joel didn't disappoint as we discussed some his various training methodologies for his athletes at Cal; how coaches can embrace a more random, game-like approach to the weight room; preventing excessive high intensity training that can blunt the development process; and sprinting and jumping (you didn't think I'd pass up a chance to talk about that). I really enjoyed listening to Joel speak with such depth on a variety of topics. His curious approach and willingness to try anything has led to some really incredible revelations that allow him to have more tools in his toolbox than almost anyone I've spoken to. I truly believe all of his ideas carry some serious weight and should be considered by the profession as a way to air out some of the staleness that pervades our industry. Be sure to support Joel's podcast and website and also look into purchasing one of his books (Speed Strength is a must read for S&C coaches). His latest book, Best Foot Forward comes out soon as well!
