On Sunday, Paul continued our Truth series looking at Gospel Identity.
He said that the goal of following Jesus is not that we recognise the ‘negative’ things we define our identity with and then redefine ourselves with ‘good’ or ‘holy’ things like how often we read the bible or how many people we’ve prayed for... It’s that we stop trying to define ourselves altogether and let the identity God has given us permeate our entire being - that we our His deeply loved children.
This is the crux of the matter. It’s taking a step back from the detail of what you’re defining yourself with and, instead, repenting of self-definition itself.
Think what our city would look like, what our families and friendship groups would look like; what our workplaces, universities, and schools would look like - if we truly understood this.
