In 5th Grade my family took a vacation to Washington D.C. My father and I were waiting in a long line to go to the top of the Washington Monument when we see Marine 1, which we assumed was carrying President Reagan, flying overhead. My Dad said, "Go run as close as you can and get a picture!" He hands me the camera and I bolt off towards the White House South Lawn. I ran through the crowds and then there was nothing but an open green field between me and Marine 1! I was running as fast as I could as the helicopter was landing. All the sudden I hear the sound of the Calvary behind me. I heard someone yelling at me to stop, so I cooled my jets, and turned around to see the mounted police behind me. I guess for some reason they didn't want me to run up and meet the President! ;-) They told me I wasn't allowed to go that far, but they did graciously let me take some pictures from where I was. They told me it was actually Vice President Bush on the Helicopter along with the President of Italy. We probably all have had moments we wanted to get to someone, or somewhere special to us. This week we discuss a few foot races that change the course of human history as we know it. The race to the Empty Tomb should be a life changing experience for us all!
