Description

Conflicts involving finances are one of the main reasons marriages end in divorce. How can couples resolve these conflicts? What Biblical principles can Christian couples follow to help them better manage their finances? Today's guests, Marcus and Schrendria Robinson answer these questions and more.

Marcus and Schrendria Robinson met in August 1998 in a graduate-level epidemiology class at the University of South Carolina. They were randomly assigned as lab partners by the professor, and the rest is history. The couple has been married for 15 years and has three amazing sons Marc, Caleb, and Kyle.

Marcus is the Vice President of Corporate Staffing, Inc. It is a temporary staffing firm with eight offices serving the entire state of South Carolina.

Schrendria is the CEO of Clear Vision Seminars & Consulting. This firm helps non-profits and small business owners with organizational development and strategic planning.

Together they serve a wonderful group of people at Mt Olive On The Hill in Columbia, SC. Schrendria serves as pastor, and Marcus is the minister of music. God has favored them and brought this 100-year-old church from a congregation of seven to a congregation of 80 in 2.5 years. Additionally, the couple leads a Facebook Live Session on Sunday nights, discussing faith, family, and finances.

Interview Highlights

* Schrendria - Christian couples should pray about all of their resources and discover what works best for them. What works for one couple, may not work for them.

* Marcus - We often don't marry people that have our same financial background. We must get educated together.

* Schrendria - Engage couples should ask these questions: 1) What did you hear about money when you were growing up? 2) What's your credit score?  3) Are you planning to start a business?  4) What financial obligations are attached to your aspirations? 5) Do you have hidden costs such as child support, wage garnishments?

* Marcus - Additional questions: 1) What is your relationship like with your extended family? 2) How do you handle when people ask you for money?

* Schrendria - It's important for ministries to teach about finances, not just asking for tithes and offering, but what they should do with their money.

* Marcus - Find out what you don't have to pay in this season of COVID-19. Have strong relationships with banks and other financial institutions. Learn about deferments and get the agreements in writing.

* Schrendria - Learn what's essential. Pay your rent or mortgage first!

* Marcus - Respect each other's contributions and operate as a team.
