Description

Luke 2: 8-12

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Today’s prayer:

God, as Christmas Day draws closer, I confess it’s easy to become distracted. I find myself thinking more about last-minute gift ideas and travel plans than I am about the miracle of your Son’s birth. Like you interrupted the shepherds during their work, God, will you please grab my heart’s attention this day? Interrupt me with your glory. You who shine with a great light on a people walking in darkness, do it again! Break through my busyness with the good news that causes great joy—that a Savior, the Messiah, the Lord, has come. That all the things vying for my attention in these busy days would lose their importance when compared to the great gift of your Son. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
