“A Prayer to Bring Back Many"

Luke 1: 13-16 13 “… Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.”

Today’s prayer:

Lord God, the Christmas season is a frantic season filled with decorations, music, and parties. Left unchecked, these activities overtake the meaning and message of your precious Son’s birth. This year, Lord, make it different. Make alive again the word the angel Gabriel spoke and bring the hearts of many to marvel and believe in the mystery of your Son’s birth. In my home, in my church, in my community. Both those who have never believed and those who’s faith has gone cold, let them come and behold him, born the King of Angels. Enliven the dead heart, soften the callous heart, and give the gift of faith, Father. As we celebrate your Son’s birth, may we also celebrate the second birth this Christmas of those who first believe. Bring back many to you, our Lord and God! In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
