The first command asserts that God is God. Since He is God, then we must reverence and honor Him as God. His supremacy in our lives reflects His supremacy over all things. Culture can be radically ignored when the greatness and goodness of God is totally embraced. God gave this command first to orient us with Him as the first priority.
