The Fig Tree 1 of 4 - Bible Boost #8

This week I want to pick up with Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. After he describes Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, better known as Palm Sunday, which we just celebrated, Matthew describes how Jesus drops the hammer on temple corruption, heals many, and angered the religious leaders.  Great stuff!

Matthew also records that Jesus went back to Bethany from where they had been commuting into Jerusalem for the Passover Festival.

Then the Bible says, “Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.”

This is important because this verse provides the background for the next four.

You might be thinking the same thing, how can hunger be the background and not the foreground? How can it be secondary and not primary. I mean really who forgot to feed Jesus?

This is my observation: What we deem primary is normally secondary to God.

He was hungry physically but more than that He was hungry relationally. Jesus was hungry, and still is, for people who want to enter in to an authentic and prayerful relationship with Him.
