Description

Some children know what they want to be when they grow up, and they proceed to grow up and do exactly what they said they wanted to do. Many of us have known a teacher who as a child set up her dolls as though they were in a classroom. Good for those people who never had to think about finding their purpose, but that's not most of us.

Some people, like our guest today, get a phone call or an email that leads to their purpose finding them. But for many of us, finding our purpose is a matter of trial and error. The problem is when we let insecurity or feelings of inadequacy hold us back from saying YES and trying something new. If we don't try the new thing, we will never know what we're missing out on.

People who are confident in themselves have an advantage over everyone else because they're better able to push through the fear or anxiety to try new things. They know that even if they fail, they'll still be OK. People who don't say YES to new opportunities may never find that thing that really lights them up--the thing that they are passionate about. (Passion--that's a subject we'll talk about in future episodes.)

In this episode, we speak with Ernie Mariscal, a successful survivor of child abuse, a retired veteran, a motivational speaker, and now the owner of KEEP UP THE FIGHT APPAREL! Ernie shares his story of being depressed and suicidal when one phone call changed his life. It was an opportunity that led to him finding his purpose. Saying YES that one time, when he least felt like it, changed the trajectory of his life. Ernie can be reached through his website www.keepupthefightapparel.com.
