The felicitation was organised in connection with the year 2021 being celebrated as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ to commemorate the Indian armed forces victory over Pakistan army in December 1971. The victory had led to the creation of a new nation – Bangladesh. It also resulted in the largest military surrender after World War II. On 16 Dec 2020, India started the 50th anniversary celebrations of the occasion with an aim to showcase this great victory of the Indian Armed Forces.
