Dr. Marlena Uhrik, author of "The Magic of Making a Difference: One CAN Make a Difference," grabs us with her heart-warming story of how one can of bamboo shoots wound up feeding thousands of children and their families. Uhrik's story not only tells the tale which began with a child's desire to feed hungry children, but also how it ignited a spark within for Uhrik to expand upon this effort by starting "The Kids' Breakfast Club" in a community in northern California. Uhrik speaks to us on how giving rewards us with a genuine feeling of empowerment by knowing we are making a difference, as well as being a part of something larger than ourselves. Now 30 years later, the nonprofit organization is still going, and the original story involving a child and one can of bamboo shoots is now a published children's book. Uhrik leaves us with the empowering message that what we do for others, we also do for ourselves.*Uhrik was asked to carry the torch in the 1996 Olympics as a national community hero, was presented with the United States Presidential Award for Service from President Obama, and recently received the California Woman of Distinction award for Women’s History Month in 2024.The Magic of Making a Difference: One CAN Make a Differencehttps://www.amazon.com/Magic-Making-Difference-One-Make/dp/B0CHKY6V1T
