We follow Louise, we follow the visions, and we realise her journey of her future whilst she is in her present. The child she sees is her own, and she sees her daughter be born, live a life and die in the same breath. We see her discover and learn a unique alien language, presented as a tool, a gift, for the more-than-zero sum gain that the aliens will surely need many many years after Louise's death. Time is now non-linear. And there seems to be bigger things to worry about, instead of nations squabbling over petty things. Arrival is not just about the arrival of aliens on planet Earth. Its about the arrival of life, and the loss of it. The arrival of shared communication between nations. And the arrival of peace throughout the planet, to which is needed further down the line to give back what was paid forward.
